About Us

AlBustan Preschool, or “the garden” in Arabic, has been a dream for the Muslim community in the Boston area for over a decade.
Parents in search of quality early childhood programs for young children that promote Islamic identity in an American context have been so satisfied with the service at AlBustan, that we had reached the maximum capacity of our former facility.
With the need to meet the capacity of old and new students being enrolled, we have moved into a new and bigger location at 808 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, Mass..

Vision                                                        Back

Al-Bustan strives to partner with parents to prepare students for all types of future success by focusing on a love for and understanding of Islam.  Al Bustan stresses the comprehensive nature of Islam and integrates it into all areas of academic development, social interaction, and personal growth and behavior.  Through this balanced focus, we hope to guide students to have a strong relationship with their Creator, balanced and comprehensive personal development, and a healthy connection with all parts of the community.  Promoting excellence in achievement and in manners will help enable children to represent Islam honorably in American society.

Organizational structure and affiliation       Back

Al Bustan is the preschool division of Malik Academy, a registered corporation as specified in Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Al Bustan preschool currently serves students from ages 2.9 – 7 years, The elementary school component started with offering 1st grade in 2007 and we are adding one classroom every year.

Al-Bustan/Malik Academy are projects of the Boston Chapter of the Muslim American Society.  The goals of the Muslim American society are to enhance our society’s understanding and awareness of the values and principles of Islam, as well as to help foster the moral and spiritual development of Muslims as well as promote their positive citizenship in society.

Licensing and accreditation                        Back

Since its first days of operation in October 2004, Al Bustan has been licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care (formally OCCS).   This licensing indicates that our physical facilities, staff, curriculum, and governing policies and procedures meet all the requirements for a licensed day care.  To meet the needs of families, we expanded the original license to include extended hours each day and a year-round program.

After completing the requisite time period and enrollment level, we have begun the initial steps of pursuing accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  NAEYC accreditation is the highest level of distinction for early childhood settings.  We are grateful to the Cambridge Partnership Program for their technical support in helping us initiate this self-study.

Cambridge Community Partnership              Back

Al Bustan has been an active member of the Cambridge Community Partnership Program.  Our involvement includes our director’s attendance in monthly meetings of preschool directors across Cambridge and Somerville.  We have been grateful for the collaborative and technical support provided by the staff from the Cambridge Partnership Community program on areas of inclusion, teacher professional development, and parent support.

Al Bustan host professional development opportunities for members of the Cambridge Partnership, and our representatives have contributed to the professional development offerings at the annual educational conferences.
